ATLANTA, GA- 18 year old Tyler Edwards continues his rookie season with impressive results in the USAC NorCal Ignite Midget Series. The first time recruit is a member of the Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle program which develops drivers for a career in motorsports. Edwards comes with a racing background in NASCAR Late Models, Legends and Quarter Midgets bringing along four championships in oval racing.

Edwards___Medium2.jpgThis past Saturday night, July 7th, Edwards contested round number seven and eight of the USAC Ignite Series collecting his second consecutive Trophy Dash victory and claimed a second and fourth place finish. Edwards posted some quick laps in all three practice sessions and did so in qualifying. A fast time of 13.767 seconds around Stockton 99 Speedway's high banks put Edwards third for his qualifying time.

Tyler was qualified to run in the four lap trophy dash and managed to get a great start over teammate Molly Helmuth who started on pole. Tyler took the early lead and walked away to his second consecutive trophy dash victory for 2012.

No invert was set for the first 30 lap feature setting Edwards third on the grid behind the divisions points leader. Edwards ran in third for the first half of the race until a yellow flag was thrown on lap 15, allowing the field to be bunch up again. On the restart Edwards was determined to beat teammate Ricky Bowers for second as Tyler studied Bowers every move on track. By lap 17, Edwards made a crossed up pass on Bowers for second in turn three and completed the pass for second. For the last 13 laps, Edwards tried to run down the leader but ran out of time and brought home a second place finish making this his second top 2 finish for 2012.

For round eight of the series a full invert from round seven finishes placed Edwards sixth on the line up. In the opening laps Edwards battled with points leader and teammate Ricky Bowers for position. By lap six, Edwards advanced to the fourth position running with teammate Sheldon Didinger for third. Half way through the race Helmuth, Didinger and Edwards were all nose to tail racing for second. Edwards coasted to a fourth place finish collecting his eighth top five finish.
