Two Third Place Finishes for Nik Romano in the NASCAR Modifieds

ANTHERTON, CA- 21 year old Nik Romano returned to his modified this past Saturday night at Stockton 99 Speedway running Twin 40 lap events. Romano continues to show progression in the Whelen All American Modified series as Nik took home two third place finishes as well as leading for 12 laps.

Romano was 8th on the qualifying charts posting a fast lap of 14.662 seconds around the 1/4 mile high banked asphalt oval. In the first 40 lap main event, an invert of six was drawn and Romano nearly missed the invert. By lap two, Romano had picked off one position for sixth and set his sights for the next position to claim. On lap six was a restart and Nik jumped to the third position battling with a competitor and managed to keep his machine in the third spot running with the leaders. As laps fell short, Romano completed the first twin feature in third place making this his highest finish placement for the 2012 season.

Romano with a fast car and an excellent setup, it only took Nik three laps until he found himself racing in clean air leading the 13 car field. Nik continued to lead the pack for 12 laps until the second place driver dove to the inside of Nik to race side by side for a few laps for the lead position. Romano lost the lead but that didn't discourage Nik as he was looking for s solid run. Romano raced hard for his second position as he followed the leader's every move in hope to make a pass back for the lead. A restart happened on lap 29, which allowed the rest of the field to be bunched up again making Romano's run on the outside a challenge for the lead. Romano fell back to third on the restart and ran to a solid third place finish in the second Modified twin race.

"Nik has come a long way in his ability to give me feedback as to what the car needs to go fast as it is definitely making us improve! Nik did a great job of racing with the veterans Wes Miller and Scott Winters," stated Romano's crew chief Jason Houghtaling.
