RSWC National Driver Talent Search Shoot-Out a Huge Success !
SACRAMENTO, California - The national talent search for the driver development program conducted by Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle has wrapped up. Supporting sponsors, K&N Filters & Sunoco Racing Fuels, awarded six free spots, of the 36 total spots in the 2009 Shoot-Out, to young, talented drivers from various forms of youth motorsports.
The Goal:
To find the next young guns with the talent and fire to go all the way to professional racing careers in NASCAR. The selected drivers, soon to be announced, will become part of the #1 NASCAR focused Driver Career Development Program in the United States. They will be raced, groomed, coached, tested, trained and molded into what NASCAR Cup teams want in their drivers.
The Winners:
Will plug into the race series and training program that makes sense for their age, experience and stage of development. RSWC career development drivers from ages 12 to 22 race in:

The Race Teams:
The RSWC Driver Development Alliance consists of eight (8) organizations with 24 race teams dedicated to develop RSWC drivers. The teams are a balance of Open Wheel and Stock Car oval track race teams ... with one Road Racing team ... to develop complete, winning, versatile, star talent for NASCAR Cup Teams.

The Shoot Out:
Included multiple diverse tests, a training class for the drivers, a training class for drivers & parents and 100 laps on of track driving. The RSWC Team tested 36 drivers on two 3-day weekends in Octoberber, 2009 on a paved oval in Northern
California.

Day 2-3:
Four Drivers tested each morning, four mid-day and four in the afternoon,
each day. They drove identical Race Cars, five 20-lap sessions on the race track. Crew Chief and crew were assigned to each car for tuning and support. Ron Sutton coached each driver on lines and 20 points of driving. Each driver had 100 laps total to show what they had. Other Team Owners from the RSWC Driver Development Alliance observing as Judges.
Who Applied?
The Shoot-Out application process is open each year to all drivers 11 to 19 years of age, with race winning backgrounds.
The Criteria:
Ron Sutton, Race Team Owners and the RSWC Crew Chiefs judged drivers on 45 points. The key areas were: Coachability, accurate feedback, focus, training
retention, motivation, communication skills, personality, aggressiveness, learning rate, confidence and lap times.
The Deadline:
The deadline for drivers and their families to submit resumes for the free spots was Wednesday, September 30th, 2009. The deadline to apply for the Shoot Out and RSWC Program had been extended to October 12th. Earlier entries were processed sooner. No more applications are being accepted this year, as the Talent Search is complete. Drivers and families can apply for the 2010 Talent Search starting in July of 2010.

Many successful car racers today, honed their driving skills driving something smaller. K&N Filters & Sunoco Racing Fuels stepped up to award positions in the 2009 Shoot-Out to six participants from the following youth racing series: Kart Racing, Legends/Dwarf Car Racing, Quarter Midget Racing, Micro-Sprint, TQ and Dirt Kart Racing.
