Brendan Langlois Wins Trophy Dash at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway

October 20, 2008 - Ford Focus Midget Rookie driver Brendan Langlois claimed another Trophy Dash victory this past Saturday evening in the United States Auto Club (USAC) California Pavement Ford Focus Midget event held at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, California. The Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle Driver Development driver (RSWC) led from wire to wire to score the win.

After qualifying fourth with a lap of 13.842 out a field of stout competitors, Langlois would be invited to the Trophy Dash race where he would compete against the three drivers that turned quicker laps than he did. With the Trophy Dashes always providing some of the best racing action of the weekend, Langlois was looking to take the win and would start on the pole position after the four car invert.

"Unfortunately, the Modified session that was before us saw the very last competitor spin, go through the grass and leave debris on the track," stated Langlois after his timed laps. "The track was slick in the area that he re-entered causing me to lose a little time but I think we have a good race car for later in the evening."

Next on the docket for the Canadian pilot was the eight lap heat race. With a cautious approach and looking to save his car for the main event, Langlois would run with the leaders but would cross the stripe in the fourth position.

With the heat race results and the invert starting order for the feature, Langlois would line up his RSWC car in the third position. With a great start, Langlois would hound the leaders before taking over the top spot on the ninth circuit. Leading the next seven laps, the former karting champion was looking at another promising finish until contact from a trailing competitor put Brendan into a spin and eventual unavoidable contact with another competitor causing substantial damage and forcing Brendan to retire.

"I'm really happy with how I performed in the trophy dash and how I was running in the feature this weekend," expressed a disappointed Langlois after the event. "I think that I definitely would have been able to finish on the podium had it not been for the contact. I am looking forward to the next event at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in November where I look to continue my battle in the Rookie-of-the-Year points and take the win."

Brendan Langlois continues to build an impressive resume of wins in his rookie season," stated Team Owner Ron Sutton. "If he had not missed one race early in the season, he would be leading the Championship now."
