Driver Career Development Application Process
As of August 1st, 2010 ...
Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle is ... NOW ACCEPTING ... resumes & applications from young Drivers for the 2010 Talent Search Shoot-Out
For positions in 2011 NASCAR Driver Career Development Program
The cut off deadline for resumes to be submitted for consideration for the 2010 Shoot Out is September 20th, 2010. The earlier we receive the resumes, the sooner we act on them and set up interviews. We encourage young Drivers and their Parents to be applying for our 2010 Shoot Out now.
RSWC reviews all resumes ... as they come in .... We narrow it down to the most talented drivers to test in October at a paved oval race track in California. Drivers selected for the Shoot-Out will participate either the first or fourth weekend in October.
The application process is pretty straight forward, and there are no costs for a driver to apply. If selected, there will be an $2500 fee for Driver to participate in the Shoot-Out, including the classes, tests and on-track driving in the race cars.
There is a crash deposit required and can be in cash, check or credit card. If the the driver crashes the race car, the family is responsible to repair it in full. If there is no damage, the crash deposit is returned 100% in full.
We accept resumes from young, experienced, winning race drivers between the ages of 11 to 20 years old. We do not accept resumes from racers just getting started in racing, nor racers over the age of 20.
We are often surprised when families of young racers don't apply, because their young driver hasn't won national championships at something. Please don't take yourself out of the running. If the young driver has talent and a track record of winning races ... and is serious about a racing career ... we want you to apply.
Step 1: Have the Driver, Family and everyone involved with Driver's racing and/or career read every detail of this 8-page tour. Please read it thoroughly ... it is critical. Thanks in advance.
Step 2: Send us a complete resume of racing experience & accomplishments, age, height, weight and a photo of the driver. PLEASE: each piece is important. If you leave something out, like the driver's photo, it just adds time.
The resume does NOT need to be pretty! We just need the facts. If you do not have a resume, do not go to the time to create a fancy layout. Don't think of this like a sponsorship proposal. We need stats and data, not image. The following info is all we need.
Resume format:
1. Driver name, DOB, height, weight and a photo.
2. Driver goals & career path desires
3. Specific Driver strengths
4. Special Racing Training classes, tutors, etc, if any
5. Racing history by class/car, # of races, and results, year by year
Example:
2010 Raced xxxx series/zzz class - 20 races, 5 poles, 3 wins, 3 - 2nds, 1 - 3rd, currently 2nd in points
2009 Raced xxxx series/zzz class - 16 races, 5 poles, 5 wins, 2 - 2nds, 3 - 3rds, finished 2nd in points.
2008 Raced xxxx series/zzz class - 20 races, 4 poles, 2 wins, 3 - 2nds, 1 - 3rd, finished 3rd in points
2007 Raced xxxx series/zzz class - 20 races, 5 poles, 4 wins, 3 - 2nds, 1 - 3rd, Won Championship.

2004 Raced XYZ series/ABC class - 12 races, 9 poles, 3 wins, 2 - 2nds and won championship
Step 3: If Driver's resume is selected for the next round, Driver & Family participate in two interviews with Ron Sutton ... one by e-mail and one by phone. At that time, you can get answers to any questions you may have, including other details on our Driver Career Development Program and Race Teams.
Please: No phone calls until we contact you. If selected, we will contact you after we have reviewed the Driver resume.
Step 4: If selected, we will have Driver participate in the RSWC Shoot-Out.
The Shoot Out:
Includes multiple diverse tests, a training class for the drivers, a training class for drivers & parents and 100 laps on of track driving. The RSWC Team will test the most talented drivers in October.
The Training & Test Agenda:
Day 1:

"The Real World Good, Bad & Ugly of Driver Career Development"
2-Hour Training Course for Drivers: "Strategies & Terminology Orientation for Driver Track Tests"

Day 2:
Drivers test in one of three levels of oval track race car, depending on their age and development level, including: USAC Young Guns Midgets (125 hp), USAC Ford Focus Midgets (185 hp) and NASCAR Grand American Modifieds (525 hp).
Drivers are split into one of three sessions: Morning, Mid Day or Afternoon. Each driver runs five 20-lap sessions (100 laps total for each driver) on the race track, with a Crew Chief and crew assigned to each car for tuning and support. Ron Sutton and a team of Drivers will be coaching each driver on lines and 24 points of driving.
The Criteria:
Ron Sutton, the Engineering Staff, the Driver Coaches and Crew Chiefs will evaluate each driver individually on 45 areas.. The big areas are: Coachability, accurate feedback, focus, training retention, motivation, communication skills, personality, aggressiveness, learning rate, confidence and lap times.
If selected, the test fee is $2500, and tests are limited to only drivers RSWC feels have potential to be developed to a NASCAR racing career.
Step 5: After the Driver tests are complete, the RSWC Judges pick the young racers they believe have what it takes to go onto a career in NASCAR. The RSWC Judges are using 45 points of criteria, some of which is outlined in page one of the 8-page tour.
Step 6: Selected drivers sign a development agreement with RSWC and race on one of the 24 RSWC Alliance Race Teams. Ron Sutton develops a tailored career plan for each individual Driver selected to the RSWC program. That career plan will include:
* Racing Series appropriate for age & experience.
* Best Race Team in series suited for driver.

*It doesn't need to be formal or pretty.
*We will not judge anything about the look of the resume.
*It does need to be complete, and it helps if it is in chronological order.
*Include everything that pertains to racing.
