Finally ... A Real Driver & Career Development Program

We have learned from our many, ongoing conversations with NASCAR Cup teams, exactly what they are looking for ... and we develop drivers to fit what these NASCAR Cup teams want to hire. RSWC Teams simulate pro race team environments, to train young drivers for a career.

When a RSWC driver trys out with a NASCAR team, the driver “fits in” with the crew, gives the feedback they are looking for … in the terms and language they want. Our most recent RSWC driver to test with a Team has a 2011 contract in hand ... for just that reason ... RSWC taught them how.

This part is simple: RSWC finds star level talented drivers ... develops them into what NASCAR Teams want ... and we coordinate our top Drivers to meet, interview, test and sign with top NASCAR Teams.

"The program goes far beyond what happens on the track in that he teaches the skills the young drivers will need in dealing with media, fans, sponsors, business people, racers, engineers, winning and losing. Ron and his program prepare and position young drivers to have the best opportunity for success both on and off the track. There are no guarantees in life, and likewise racing. Preparation is the key to achieving the opportunity to succeed. Preparation is the focus of RSWC."
- John Grewohl, Parent

"The RSWC Program has absolutely made me a better driver and person. From the absolute basics to very advanced techniques and technology, it all matters. To be the best you have to know it all and know it well. That is what the RSWC Program is all about ... a complete program that is organized and methodical."
- Bobby Grewohl, Driver

"In order to reach a professional career in NASCAR, a driver must not only display exceptional on track qualities but off track as well. This is where RSWC stands out from any other driver development program. As a second year engineering student, I have found that RSWC training is really a University for race car drivers. The trainers are professionals and you never leave a class without having learned something valuable and having something to improve on."
- Josh Reaume, Driver

"The RSWC program has taught me quite a bit in a short time. In the classroom I have learned everything from the importance of keeping my body in shape, how to speak intelligently during interviews, as well as how to keep my crew motivated. The RSWC team shows up to the track well prepared with the best equipment. As a driver this is makes me feel like it is now all up to me. Everyone on the team has their specific role and they all are the best at what they do."
- Joey Licata, Driver

Ron Sutton is a 30 year racing veteran as a chassis & engine builder, driver, crew chief and driver coach. Ron has won 13 championships and over 460 races. Previously, Ron owned a chassis & engine building business "Ron Sutton Race Engineering", that built race cars for winning Pro Racers and did race motor research & development.

Ron raced professionally in Drag racing for 6 years. After leaving the professional ranks, Ron raced Stock Cars, Super-modifieds, SCCA Road Racing Cars (FF1600, FF2000 & GT-1) ... and Clutch & Shifter Karts. Ron earned his nickname “Doctor Ron” as a Racing Consultant and Crew Chief for hire to top race teams across the country.

Ron was a nationally known business and marketing consultant. For years, he provided high level marketing consulting to Fortune 500 companies.

In 1993, Ron launched The Small Business Resource Center, which would become the largest consulting company for small businesses on the West Coast. With offices in San Diego and Sacramento, The Small Business Resource Center provided coaching, consulting, business planning and training to over 3000 businesses. Ron sold the Consulting business in 2008 to focus on developing drivers full time.

Race Driver Career Planning
Ron Sutton works directly with parents to develop a career path for all young RSWC Development Drivers. Each plan is tailored to the driver’s unique needs, goals, strengths, weaknesses and fit. Ron takes into account all the factors: Age, size, aptitude, experience, budget, desires and the market. The budget is very important. The RSWC “strategy” is to help each young driver to build an impressive resume of winning races in cars … as quickly as possible … with the least total cost.

Our strategy, use the precious resources a family has VERY wisely. The families we work with, are not rich, so we have to use the limited financial resources they have ... and help them raise emough money ... to take their young driver all the way to being signed by a team. The platform of a RSWC career plan, is to develop young drivers into what NASCAR Teams want.

"I did not have a racing background so it was important to find a professional organization to help develop our son with his racing career. With the RSWC developmental race team, we have received exactly what we were looking for … experience, guidance, training, coaching and the ability to surround our son with people who know every aspect of racing."
- Scott & Shari Meier, Parents

"As a career coach, Ron has been VERY upfront and honest about the auto racing industry. It's a brutal business and only a few make it to the big time. Ron wants his drivers to succeed just as much as we do. When we suggest an idea or option, we discuss it with him and he gives us his honest opinion and we (as a group) decide what will be best for the driver in the long term. Ron has been very understanding and listens very closely when we have questions or give a suggestion."
- Joey Licata Sr, Parent

"We were ready for the next step in racing … Nik participated in the Shoot Out and was lucky enough to be selected to participate in the program. We are in our third year and Nik is continuously learning and honing his skills on and off the track. We are truly thrilled to be a part of this program!"
– John & Lynne Romano, Parents

Training Classes & Workshops
There are plenty of "schools" that teach driving skills ... but where do young drivers learn how to achieve a career? RSWC conducts classroom training for all RSWC Development Drivers on all the real world topics they need to master to become a professional racer ... inside and outside the cockpit.

Our trainers include top NASCAR Team Insiders, Suspension Experts, Television Commentator, Sponsor Rep, Authors, Crew Chiefs, PR People, Marketing Experts, Fitness Trainer, Tri-atlete Doctor, Spotters, Mental Coaches, Data Acquistion Experts & Race Engineers.

Knowledge and experience are the keys to drivers making the right decisions in a split second. Some of those decisions are about driving race cars. Other … even more critical decisions for their career … have to do with what they do out of the car.

Knowledge is different from experience. Knowledge is what you learn and embrace … hopefully before you need to make decisions and take action. Experience is what you get from doing things. Experience without knowledge is ugly. It is often called, “trial & error” or a “learning experience.” Those are just things we tell ourselves after we have done something wrong.

How many things can your young driver do wrong … and still make it to a career. We can tell you from experience … the answer is “not many.” You don’t get many chances in this sport. You and your driver need to be prepared to make the right choices, when the opportunities present themselves.

Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle is like a Race Driver University, conducting training workshops, to provide RSWC drivers … (and parents too) … with the knowledge to make the right choices.

"The classes and trainers not only provide the knowledge to excel as a professional driver … they provide the knowledge and experiences to excel as an individual."
– Kim Walmer, Parent

"The Classes are VERY informative an the topics are bout things that are crucial for Driver Development, but most people who do don't have the access to RSWC never even think of. Ron's program lays out all the tools you need. Then all you have to do is learn how to use them and stick them in you tool belt."
- Mindy McCord, Driver

"The RSWC program and training classes are great. They have taught my parents and I so many new things about racing that we had never even thought about. They have made a huge impact on my driving and tuning on the race car."
- Trevor Cristiani, Driver

"The classes have been extremely thorough and presented in a way that is easy for adults and the drivers to understand. The topics covered are helpful outside of racing as well. The classes are jam packed with information, but the trainers present their topics in a way that captures your attention. I have learned a lot in the workshops aimed at the parents. I know my son has learned life skills that will help him not only in the racing profession, but in any other endeavor he may choose."
– Lynne Romano, Parent

"The RSWC is a first class organization. From the in-class training to the on-the-track coaching, Ron and his team has been a huge asset in developing our son."
- Scott & Shari Meier, Parents

"I have studied and used the materials that Ron and RSWC trainers have provided … and it has helped me achieve poles and race wins. The classes that stand out in my mind most are the Speed Secret classes with Ross Bentley. I think the mental aspect of driving is definitely one of the most important and Ross Bentley teaches this very well."
- Benny Moon, Driver

"It was very clear that Jessica was benefiting from the classes greatly. The way she talked about what she was learning in the classes and that she has been able to apply what she learned both on and off the track, is to me, one of the key components to Ron's program and what separates his from any other. He works on the whole driver, not just the on track driver."
- Bill & Janelle Brunelli, Parents

"The training classes have been very informative. As a parent, I have been in the classroom for several of the training sessions and have learned quite a bit. My son has learned a lot as well. Although the classes are all day, there isn't wasted time. The open discussion forum is nice but when the conversations get away on a tangent, Ron has a good way of redirecting things back to the topic of discussion."
- Joey Licata Sr, Parent

"The driver development classes offered are topics that would be hard to find anywhere else. The experts we get to learn from enjoy teaching us, which makes learning from them even more enjoyable for us. I still keep in touch with my coaches and they are more than happy to help."
- Jessica Brunelli, Driver

"I was very impressed with the amount of information that you learn in regards to driving strategies as well as interaction with trainers. You receive a lot of good materials and recommendations when it comes to soliciting sponsors … plus what to do, and what not to do, when in comes to competitive driving. Brandon has learned a lot on driving strategies and uses them in driving his race car."
- Bill & Gail White, Parents

"The training classes offered by RSWC have been outstanding. Both Alex and myself have learned things that would have been overlooked without the information provided in these classes. The instructors have all demonstrated a thorough knowledge of their subject matter and have communicated their experiences in ways that will prevent costly mistakes down the road. These instructors will be key to the future of Alex's racing."
-Jerry Jacobsen, Parent

"It is also impossible to have a good race day unless time is spent in preparation. The RSWC classes prepare drivers to succeed. The teachers Ron chooses are some of the best speakers I have ever met, because to keep a classroom full of hyperactive young speed-freaks on task from 9 am to 5 pm is no small feat."
-Nik Romano, Driver

"I have been pleasantly surprised how every time I fly home after a weekend of training, I am blown away at the amount of new material I have learned."
- Jace Meier, Driver

Career Guidance Coaching (for Parents and adult drivers)
Racing is a jungle, and there are an endless number of dead-ends in getting a young driver to a career. There is an almost endless list of decisions to be made. Big ones … small ones … critical ones. Which series to run, which class to be in, which team to join, who to connect with, where to invest your time and money, who to stay away from … and on and on. Everyone has opinions ... but few have ever actually got a driver all the way to a career.

The most important thing is Parents of young Drivers on a career track ... need to make the right decisions on:
* Driver Coaches/Mentors
* Career development training
* Series to run each year
* Teams to race with
* People to connect with
* Many smaller, but important, situations

All of these decisions are critical … because if you make the wrong choice … you can’t turn back the clock and make your driver "young" again. Ron offers what is known as “on-call coaching” for parents of young drivers on a career path.

Parents present the issues they face, the opportunities, the challenges and the decisions they need to make … and through 20 years of consulting expertise and 30 years of racing industry experience … Ron assists Parents to make smart, informed, objective, big picture decisions.

A coaching relationship with Ron provides ongoing, support and guidance all the way through the career development of a young driver.

"Ron has always looked at what would be best for Jessica's career path and has always considered our issues in his planning for Jessica, which has been a very helpful."
- Bill & Janelle Brunelli, Parents

"I don't come from a racing family like a lot of young racers but I'm more passionate about racing then anything else in this world. I knew that I was going to be a professional race car driver, but I needed more help than my Dad alone could give me. I’m in my fifth year of development and convinced joining RSWC was the best decision of my life."
- Jace Meier, Driver

"Ron has always been upfront, to the point, knowledgeable and very informative. He has been very easy to work with and you can tell he is well respected."
– John & Lynne Romano, Parents

"Our son has benefited greatly from Ron's encouragement and guidance. He challenges young drivers to reach further in all areas, preparing them for success on and off of the track."
- John & Wendy Reaume, Parents

"I am really happy to be in the program with Ron, he explains everything so well down to the point where I can understand everything I need to do to be the best in and out of the car all the time. All of the classes give me a better chance to fully understand what I can do to further my career as a driver. I think this is a great program to be in."
-Bobby Runyan, Driver

Fund Raising Training
Besides 30 years of racing industry experience, Ron Sutton is a nationally known marketing consultant. Ron has consulted to over 100 of the Fortune 500, trained thousands of business owners, and created the powerful “Seven Secrets of Marketing” training program. Ron trains and coaches Drivers and Parents on methods to get sponsors and benefactors to help fund the high costs of racing. Don't misunderstand this to mean RSWC can teach you how to completely fund your racing. Big sponsors and deep pocket benefactors are few and far between in mid level racing. Ron has trained and coached families to successfully raise moderate amounts of money ... in the $25,000 to $70,000 range each year ... to help their funding. But these families needed to have a racing budget to start with.

"It's the ability to gain sponsors with marketing skills, and to keep those sponsors by understanding how to market "their" product or service, among many other things. The RSWC driver development program provides the tools to excel in those areas with the training and specialized courses. We are very pleased with the outcome of the RSWC program and glad we applied - it provides all of the above."
–Kim Walmer, Parent

"Ron is aware of the financial burden racing places on families and works hard to alleviate some of the costs and help find additional funding for his drivers. This has been the difference between being able to race, or not, and is much appreciated."
- Richard & Julie Clark, Parents

24 Race Team Alliance - Race Car Ride Coordination
As a driver moves up each year to a new series, Parents are faced with a MAJOR dilemma. When the Parent, tries develop their driver on their own ... buys a race car new to them, plus the equipment ... then gain the experience … prep and tune the new race car … and coach your young driver all on your own. That Parent and Driver is in for a tough road.

The challenge most parents face when they move to cars from karts, quarter midgets, micro sprints, dwarf cars, etc … or even from one level of cars to the next ... the competition is tough … and the cars will be brand new to most parents. Many Parents recognize the real goal is not to own a team, but rather to build your young driver’s career.

When RSWC selects a driver, through its annual talent search, we place our drivers with top teams in each series ... teams that are the best fit for each step of the young driver’s career path. RSWC has a Race Team Alliance with eight large multi-team racing organizations fielding 24 race car teams for RSWC drivers. (Team Details later in Tour)

"In my racing throughout the country, I have yet to find a Late Model race team who is as professional and dedicated to winning as High Point Racing. They have developed a network of organizations and professionals who simply despise finishing anywhere but first place.

I know every race team and driver says that, but HPR's research and preparation is unmatched. The mechanics and engineers at High Point Racing had the concept of coil bind perfected at Irwindale Speedway before most teams even knew what it was. Consequently, in my first season with High Point Racing, one of their cars won the Pole in 15 of the 18 races we entered and came home with 12 wins."

- Jace Meier, Driver

"Ron strives for excellence in everything he does and it shows. We have found the RSWC team to be very professional and dedicated to getting the most out of the car and our son."
- John & Wendy Reaume, Parents

"We've had wonderful experiences with the three teams we have had the pleasure to work with. We have found the crews to be helpful, kind, encouraging, knowledgeable, respectful and really fun to be around!"
– John & Lynne Romano, Parents
(Two championships in first 2 years with RSWC)

"I was very impressed with how well all of the team members worked with each other. Each crew member has his specific role and after observing the team's interaction it was clear that there were no egos or attitudes present. The crew chief and the driver coach (Ron) seem to communicate very well with the driver and listened to his needs and made adjustments accordingly. Great team atmosphere!"
- Joey Licata Sr, Parent

"The cars were always very competitive and well prepared. The Team was very knowledgeable and experienced ... and with Ron's expertise and training ... it was truly a great learning experience for Jessica in her development as a driver both on and off the track."
- Bill & Janelle Brunelli, Parents

"Racing with the RSWC Midgets has been great experience in team work and car preparation. First class operation."
- Mike McCord, Parent

"All the race teams that Ron has in the RSWC Alliance with are top notch race teams. Each team I raced with was very professional and put me in a car that could win races. I raced with Bill McAnally Racing for two years and achieved numerous poles and race wins."
- Benny Moon, Driver

Driver Tests with other Teams
After your young driver has proven themselves at the entry levels of car racing … they will need to show they can drive the big cars on the big tracks.

Which race teams do this? How much does it cost? Who is the best choice to go do a test with? All important questions. The wrong answer may not end your driver’s career … but it will probably delay it … and cost you substantially more money.

Connections to NASCAR Teams
Ron Sutton only refers top RSWC drivers to teams, when he believes they are the real deal, the whole package and they are ready to move to that level. This service is not for sale at any price. Ron only does this for RSWC drivers he has worked with for an extended period of time … and knows from experience … the driver is ready ... and truly star caliber talent. RSWC sets up the introductions and arranges for the RSWC Driver to test with a specific NASCAR Team, or showcase their talents in front of several teams at what is known as a "combine".

Just in the last year, RSWC has been successful at:
* Placing a talented female RSWC driver in NASCAR's D4D program, fully funded.
* Having five RSWC Drivers test in front of Top NASCAR Cup Teams.
* Two RSWC Drivers securing career building sponsors and signing with top teams for 2011.

Driver Coaching (on track):
Ron Sutton has been a driver coach to many champions, and does ongoing driver training in classroom, at the track in tests and practice, and in the heat of battle on race day.

Even though Ron won 85 races as a driver, he freely admits to not being "a natural" ... and that he had to "learn how" to race well. Many drivers find Ron clearly communicates what to do, when to do it and how to do it ... taking the ambiguity and vagueness out of the coaching equation.

While Ron often helps veterans see the little things that make them faster ... and strategies to win more ... he has a knack for helping young drivers to ramp up quicker. Patience, clear communication methods and a keen understanding of what it takes to be fast are the tools Ron's relies on. Ron coaches young drivers to focus on learning and improving ... and the results come naturally. The most powerful strategies he teaches ... are how to win races even when you don't have the fastest race car, by out thinking the other drivers.

"I especially enjoy working with Ron, his coaching is very straightforward. He tells you what you need to do and how it should be done."
- Mindy McCord, Driver (Age 15 at the time)

"Ron made it easy to perform at my 102% level."
- Jimmy Moon, Driver (Age 13 at the time)

"Ron is a great coach, he is knowledgeable and patient. When I arrived at my first Las Vegas race ... my second car race ever ... I was a bit nervous as the Las Vegas Bullring is an extremely fast track for the Focus Midgets. Ron worked with me in practice to perfect my line, by the third round I was running 2nd quick and was extremely comfortable and confident. The evening proved successful with a top three finish."
– Keegan Walmer, Driver (Age 14 at the time)

"Ron really helps break it down for you. He instills a sort of confidence in you that helps you learn lines and pick up speed. Ron may be hard on you, but it's because he knows you can make it if you really work at it. "
- Jessica Brunelli, Driver (Age 14 at the time)

"Ron made everything clear and made me feel confident in my ability in driving the race car and talking me through my errors."
- Brandon White, Driver (Age 12 at the time)

"I have learned more valuable lessons in one year racing with RSWC than I have in four years of racing on my own. The in-class training, on-track training, racing, and every other RSWC event has been a wonderful learning experience for me."
- Jessica Clark, Driver (Age 15 at the time)

Team of Driver Coaches for Maximum Development:
Typically, no one person can know all there is to know about anything complex. Racing well can be complex. In addition to Ron Sutton as a primary Driver Coach, RSWC plugs individual RSWC Driver Coaches into RSWC Drivers based on their specific needs. It takes more than one point of view ... more than one person's experience ... to fully develop a race driver. Ron teamed with some of the best driver coaches in racing. The RSWC Coaching Team is made up of veteran drivers from NASCAR stock cars, Indy Car, Grand Am, Sprint Car and Midgets. Many of the Coaches won hundreds of races and many championships in their prime driving days.

"The RSWC coaches help you look at things in a new way. They teach you that there is so much more to think about and so many ways to improve. They keep you growing. They make sure that you are the best “you” possible."
- Jessica Brunelli, Driver

"RSWC has a number of on-track training courses with Driver Coaching which are incredible. I have particularly gained from the "Day in the Dirt" class and driving the NASCAR Grand National West car. Driving a high horse-powered sprint car on a tiny dirt track or a huge, heavy stock car on a tight oval takes you out of your comfort zone significantly ... and teaches you things. When you get back to your normal racing, you're a better driver because of it."
- Jace Meier, Driver

"All of the coaches we have worked with are outstanding in their knowledge and were easy to work with. They truly want the driver to be successful."
– John & Lynne Romano, Parents

"I believe the RSWC driver coaching provides the foundation a driver needs to achieve success at the highest levels of auto racing."
- John Reaume, Parent

"The training days that Mr. Sutton holds on the track are fantastic. The one class that really stood out in my mind best is the Grand National test we had with Bill McAnally Racing. Duane Knorr, the crew chief, literally went over all tuning and adjustments in a NASCAR Cup style stock car. After each adjustment, we then took the car out to see how it reacted as well as the adjustments the driver had to make to go fast. I have never taken so much away from a test session. It was absolutely a great experience and knowledge that will provide me skills in communicating with a NASCAR crew chief or engineer."
- Bobby Grewohl, Driver

"I have observed from a distance and the Driver Coach communication skills seem to be very good. When they discuss with the driver some things that he must do differently, it is never delivered in a negative way. "What you did was good, but try it this way and it should be faster", seems to be the way that the coaches get their point across in a positive and non insulting way. Positive reinforcement seems to be the RSWC way!"
- Joey Licata Sr, Parent

"The coaches where great to work with. Brandon really enjoyed being around his coach both on and off the track because they really took the time to get to know both Brandon and the family and are just a great bunch of guys. We can't say enough about Brandon's coach."
- Bill & Gail White, Parents

"I came into the 2008 season knowing absolutely nothing about road racing, and at first it definitely showed. I needed some help, and that is just what I got. A handful of RSWC coaches worked with me on practice and race days. With their help, I went on to win the 2008 Formula Ford championship, as well as 6 individual race wins and the Rookie of the Year title."
-Nik Romano, Driver

(Since then, Nik also won the USAC Ford Focus Midget Pavement Championship, and is now racing NASCAR Modifieds with 2 wins already this season.)

"Ron and the driving coaches have spent a great deal of quality time with Mindy to help her in all aspects of driving and car control. Ron has shown a great interest in the drivers as individuals and works to great lengths to overcome any diversity in their driving habits."
- Mike McCord, Parent
